AVCAP promotes youth in aviation in the Coulee Region. We aim to provide support to other groups who are directly involved in aviation-related endeavors with youth. We do this in a variety of ways:
- Aviation & STEM Field Days. AVCAP supports taking the wonder of aviation to local middle schools. We provide funding for materials, fuel, and provide the F-16 Fighting Falcon mobile simulator to excite students and teach them about science, engineering, technology, and math (STEM).
- F-16 Fighting Falcon mobile simulator. Built around the cockpit of an actual Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon simulator, the mobile simulator provides the public with a unique flight experience. Mounted into a travel trailer, the simulator visits schools, fairs, airshows, and other public events.
- La Crosse Aviation Base. Located at the La Crosse Regional Airport, the Aviation Base is a multi-use facility. Organizations that provide youth-focused services such as the EAA Young Eagles and the Civil Air Patrol utilize the facility for flight training, meetings, and public outreach. The facility also serves as a mission base for operating search and rescue and disaster relief operations. The facility provides internet connectivity, 12 computer workstations, and a fully functioning communications suite with VHF and HF radio capabilities. It also provides housing for search and rescue aircraft that can provide air support to local authorities in times of need. Transient units and operations utilize the facility for security operations (staging for distinguished visitors), counterdrug operations, overnight housing, and media staging during large scale disasters. The facility also provides shelter and rest space for units travelling to and from Fort McCoy who at times must wait for up to 24 hours for their charter flights to arrive.
